April showers didn’t help with efforts to burn the woodland area

The burn was unsuccessful (too wet, too green) – try again in Fall?!

Ben also highlighted projects in the works and upcoming in May – September 2026; for example, the Woodland Trail is currently being re-routed. This will help preserve sensitive effigy mound areas, define a trail to the remodeled Hogan House and more! The swimming beach building and fish station building will have work done to repair and refresh their exterior appearance and durability for Wisconsin weather…and MORE!
Please plan your trips to the Park accordingly during these transformational times as some areas may be closed or restricted while work is in progress. Thanks in advance for your patience!
Drew Howick, Friends President, provided an update on the Hogan House – completion of Phase I restorations and upcoming Phase II projects (i.e. new windows, doors, seating, etc.). Also, check out our upcoming Friends events.

Seth Taft, Executive Director of the Friends of WI State Parks and archaelogist, presented historical and interesting information on the First Nation mounds and effigies in WI, including those in Governor Nelson State Park. Click here for his presentation (sorry, no audio is available). Thank you to the more than 50 people who attended!
Celebrate the beauty of spring with photos from Paul Ludden as he shares some sightings from his recent hikes in the park. Enjoy!
