Please join us for our 2nd Annual Friends Meeting with guest speaker, Seth Taft:

We’re eager to share the upgrades and transformations underway at Governor Nelson State Park as well as the latest updates on our Friends activities and signature project – the Hogan House renovation!
Our guest speaker, Seth Taft, will present…

In Effigy: An Archaeological Review of Lake Mendota and the Four Lakes Region
Since time immemorial, the four lakes region in Dane County has been a unique geographic setting that has welcomed people for its abundance of resources and natural beauty. Remnants of Indigenous peoples’ sacred connection to the landscape endures through elaborate earthenworks ranging in many forms, particularly in animal shapes (known as “Effigy Mounds.”)
Seth will provide an overview of the Effigy Mound culture from approximately over 1,000 years ago, emphasizing Governor Nelson State Park and other neighboring sites, and will discuss the continued cultural and sacred significance of these spaces within this specific part of present-day Wisconsin.
We look forward to seeing you May 5!
The efforts of our volunteers, members, donors, neighbors and park staff continue to make Governor Nelson State Park one of Wisconsin’s BEST treasures. We appreciate your interest and support!
