Welcome New Park Ranger Ben Berge

In June 2025, Governor Nelson State Park welcomed our new Park Ranger, Ben Berge!

Ben states “I’m honored to step into the role of Park Manager at Governor Nelson State Park. I’ve been with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for just over two years, with previous assignments at Lake Kegonsa, Blue Mound, and the Kettle Moraine State Forest – Southern Unit. Each of these experiences has helped me grow as a steward of public lands and deepened my commitment to conservation and community engagement.

Before joining the DNR, Ben served as a combat engineer in the U.S. Marine Corps and later ran his own residential construction business. He’s currently completing his degree in Sustainable Management, which has given him a broader perspective on balancing natural resource protection with public access and long-term sustainability.

When Ben’s not at the park, he enjoys hunting, woodworking, and spending time outdoors with his wife and young daughter. He’s grateful for the opportunity to serve this unique property and looks forward to all that lies ahead at Governor Nelson.

Welcome, Ben! We look forward to working with you!  Joining Ben this summer are seasonal workers Bob, Heidi, Davis and Todd.  Joe Giesfeldt will continue as Park Supervisor and Dan Wallace will continue to lead group volunteer activities in the Park. Thank you all for everything you do!
