March 2026: Governor Nelson State Park will undergo several months of changes, upgrades and transformations. Here’s an overview (dates are estimates based on weather, contractor schedules, etc.):
MARCH – MAY 2026
Much needed shoreline reparations have begun at the dog beach, swimming beach and the breakwater retaining wall near the beach. The Accessible Fishing Pier will also be repaired and restored. Click on the video below to see the work in progress…
APRIL 2026
Prairie and woodland burns will occur to clear debris and invasives as well as help restore native species (weather permitting).
MAY – SEPTEMBER 2026
The swimming beach building and fish station building will have work done to repair and refresh their exterior appearance and durability for Wisconsin weather.
The Woodland Trail will be re-routed. This will help preserve sensitive effigy mound areas, define a trail to the remodeled Hogan House and more!
Please plan your trips to the Park accordingly during these transformational times as some areas may be closed or restricted while work is in progress.
Thanks in advance for your patience!
